Motherhood is the doorway back to yourself

What if everything that is breaking open in you right now is not a failure, but the way back to yourself?

Remember the woman. Remember the mother.
Deep work for mothers, because motherhood doesn’t create our wounds, it reveals them.

The question no one asks

Why do we get so triggered by our children?

When they have a tantrum. When they say no. When they need you at the exact moment you have nothing left. When the nights do not end and nothing you try works.

And underneath, the quieter ones. Why do I shut down my love when everything in me wants to keep my heart open? Why does it go past helplessness into despair?

Then the shame. Because we reacted. Because we said we would do it differently.

And you did decide differently. You read the books. You chose the conscious way, so your child would not carry what you carried. And still, something wakes up in you that you do not recognise, and it takes you over.

So why is this still here?

Because you decided with your head, and the old programming answers from the body. It is faster than you. It was handed to you long before you could refuse it. Knowledge is the first step. It was never the last one.

Your children are not the obstacle to this work. They are the ones pointing at it.

Rock face split by a single crack

Who you are is how you react

This is the part nobody says out loud.

Who you are is not what you believe. It is not what you know, and it is not what you promised yourself at five in the morning. Who you are is what comes out of you when your child screams and you are already empty.

Which is the hardest thing about motherhood, and the best news inside it. Because you are handed that exact moment ten times a day. No other role on earth gives a woman that much material, or that many chances.

And you do not have to have understood it all the way through before you can begin.

Understanding matters. It is where we start, and it is what takes the shame out. But it was never meant to be the toll gate. You do not have to find the memory, name the wound and trace it back three generations before you are allowed to move. You can just react differently once. Then again. Badly, clumsily, and far too late in the argument.

For a long time it will look like nothing is happening. That is what change looks like from the inside. And then one day you hear yourself answer your child in a voice you have never used before, and you have no idea when it changed.

Light breaking through a gap between two cliffs

Awareness is the doorway, not the destination

I am not going to keep you digging.

I see the hidden protection underneath words and behaviour. That part of my work has not changed, and it is the part I am good at. But I no longer want this to become an endless search for what is wrong, wounded or hidden. That creates heaviness. And it can quietly turn healing itself into an identity.

My work is not: keep digging until you finally fix yourself.

My work is: see clearly what has been running you, meet it with honesty and compassion, then practise the woman you are choosing to become.

The past explains the patterns. The present is where we change them. The future is built through what you repeatedly live now.

The initiation

Pregnancy is the first awakening.
Birth is the portal.
Motherhood is the initiation.

It does not happen in the birth room. It begins after, in the everyday, and it takes years.

No one prepares a woman for this. No one tells you what your child will show you about yourself. At some point everything you pushed down your whole life comes up, and the mask you wore to keep your face falls apart. Anger, helplessness, chaos, grief, whatever is yours. That is not the problem. That is the invitation.

You can leave a job. You can leave a man. You can drive home from any retreat. Most people do. Not because it stopped working, but because it started working, and it got too close.

You cannot end it with a child. Tomorrow morning, that little hand points at the same place again.

Motherhood is not a time to hibernate yourself. Not a time to sacrifice yourself. Not a time to abandon yourself and wait until they are older, until there is finally time, until it is your turn again.

It is a time to let it move you. Right now, in the middle of it, with the noise and the mess and the anger that rises. Not afterwards.

The two acts of remembering

Remember the woman. Remember the mother.

Remember the woman. The one underneath the conditioning, the self-abandonment and everything she learned she had to become. Motherhood reveals her patterns, her unmet needs and the places where she disconnected. She learns to meet herself, stay with herself, and consciously choose who she is becoming.

Remember the mother. The one underneath the cultural diminishment of motherhood. Care is not lesser work. Dependence is not failure. A child’s need for closeness is not an inconvenience that has to disappear as quickly as possible. The relational world a child grows inside matters profoundly.

My work refuses two extremes: that a mother should sacrifice herself completely for her child, and that a liberated woman has to make motherhood smaller in order to reclaim herself.

The mother does not have to disappear for the child. And the importance of the child’s relationship with the mother does not have to disappear for the woman.

My work is the meeting place between these two truths.

Who I am

I’m Karin.

I had two and a half years of pure bliss with my son. Then he reached the age where my own childhood wounds sat, and everything broke open. I had six years of trauma work behind me at that point, and I still fought against it. I kept it down, I kept it down, I controlled. And then this monster took me over. And it was not me. It was forty years of frozen anger, and I could not push it down anymore.

So I went down there. All the way.

Today I walk this path with my own mother. She is 74, and we are healing the mother wound together, the one that was handed to her and that she handed to me. When that wound closes, something releases that was never only yours to carry, and it changes what moves forward through your children and what stops with you.

I don’t teach a theory. I walked it, and I still walk it.

Read my story

What I actually do

Your shadow speaks to mine. And your gold speaks to me just as loudly.

When you sit with me, I am not analysing you. I am listening to two things at once. To the part of you that you have kept in the dark, the one that finds my own dark parts and starts talking, because it has finally met something that will not flinch. And underneath it, to the part of you that is pure gold, the one you stopped believing in somewhere along the way.

You do not have to explain yourself well. Most of what matters was never in the story anyway. I see it, I say it back to you, and something in you recognises it before your mind has caught up.

That is the gift. Not that I have the answers. That I can hear what is already in you.

How the work moves

Three movements, and we walk them again and again.

See. What is actually happening underneath the reaction, and where did that response once make sense? We look beneath the anger, the overwhelm, the guilt, the control, the withdrawal, and we find the pattern, the belief, the unmet need. Not to assign blame. To take the mystery out of it.

Meet. Can you stay with what is here without abandoning yourself, suppressing it, spiritualising it, exploding it outward or turning it into shame? And then: what would the more truthful version of you choose here? There is always one different response available.

Become. Repeat the new choice in ordinary life until it is familiar in your body, your relationships, your kitchen at half past six. And then notice what your child learns simply by living beside this version of you.

Insight has to become lived behaviour. Otherwise it is just a better vocabulary for the same life.

How I work

I will be the cocoon.

I hold you softly, gently, with so much understanding. And inside, you change. Like the caterpillar becoming the butterfly. It is messy, it is hard, and you will fight against it.

That is how transformation works. I don’t promise you comfortable. I promise you held.

And what is waiting on the other side is gold. The caterpillar crawls. She has no way of imagining flight, she has no reference for it. And she does not come out as a faster caterpillar. She comes out with wings. She can go anywhere.

That is the part you cannot picture from inside the cocoon. So let me hold it for you until you can.

“I did nothing today”

You can spend an entire day feeding children, cleaning the kitchen, reading the same book again, holding emotions, answering questions, making food, navigating conflict and putting everyone to bed, and then conclude: I did nothing today.

That sentence says nothing about you. It says something about what our culture has learned to count as valuable.

Sitting beside a child is not nothing.

Listening matters.

Repairing after losing your temper matters.

Holding a boundary without withdrawing love matters.

Allowing sadness matters.

Making food and creating rhythm matter.

Touch and presence matter.

The thousand apparently insignificant repetitions of childhood matter.

This is meant to give the ordinary day back its dignity. Not to romanticise exhaustion, and not to ask you to disappear inside it.

And it does not end with you

Mothers build the next generation. The next leaders, the next fathers, the next mothers. All of them are being formed right now, in your kitchen, by a woman who was taught her role is small.

It is not small. Children can only become what they have seen. They cannot learn self-trust from a woman who abandoned herself.

Your daughter will step into her motherhood more embodied than you did, because she watched you. And hers after her. This work does not only heal you. It puts a missing role back into the world.

This is why the work does not stop at the woman. It moves outward, in this order, and each part carries the next.

The woman.
The mother.
The child.
Our relationship with life.
The generations after us.

We do not only shape the world through what we teach children about it. We shape it through what they repeatedly experience of being human while they are growing into it.

We cannot change the world without changing the way we understand motherhood.

A woman standing in the water with her arms open

This is not a crisis. This is the most beautiful thing you will ever do.

Not because it is easy. Because you stop stopping. Because you no longer put yourself away every time someone needs you.

You are not posing as someone. You are becoming her.
